I have finally recovered from attending the 3rd annual Digital Arts & Technology Symposium. This symposium, in its 3rd year running, brings together local design, technology, architectural and art communities in the North Carolina, USA, Triad region. This year was extraordinary, as we had presenters from all over the country exhibiting their work and discussing with others what it is exactly that they’re working on, why they’re doing it and where they expect to go. It was hosted at The University of North Carolina Greensboro, the uni I actually received my BFA from. Here is the corresponding website: http://dats.uncg.edu.

From the website: “This year’s theme of ‘Between the Lines: Innovation in Art, Architecture, and Design’ promises to bring together communities, industries, and individuals for 3 days of celebration and inspirational exchange. This interdisciplinary event will bring together academics, designers, creative professionals, artists, business entrepreneurs, economic developers, and technology researchers to explore the possibilities of new and innovative approaches to design and technology. Join us and see how creative forces are crossing lines to bring inspiration to the Triad and celebrate the talent and opportunities of the region.”

The highlights from the symposium was definitely seeing the crowds gather around the two projections from the Graffiti Research Lab and Christopher Baker, especially from the Graffiti Research Lab. They dedicate their work to give voices to the people and it makes for darn good entertainment at a symposium, for sure. When Christopher Baker attended the 2007 AIGA Design Conference, he shared with the audience what he thought was “next”. Taken off of his website, Mr. Baker says, “Simply put, I think it will be Architecturally-integrated urban screens“. So I bring you a collection of videos and photos, some of which from Baker and GRL, that showcase the idea of technology in urban scenes, additive graffiti, and empowering people.
